Serving Those Who Serve

Therapeutic Approach

“There is no greater love than this:

that a person would lay down their life for the sake of their friends.”

John 15:13

Having had the priviledge of serving our country for nearly a quarter-century as a member of the Canadian Forces, I've seen the effects a traumatic experience can have on an individual firsthand; having worked with many throughtout my career in varying capacities. I also acutely understand, and am sympathetic to the personal, relational, and familial difficulties and dynamics which most predominantly accompany a life devoted to service.

Thus, as a registered psychotherapist, it is my expressed goal to assist these families, in any way I can; and would certainly revel in the opportunity to help you and yours find a measure of tranquility and prosperity in the often turbulent, yet extremely fulfilling career of protecting others. So whether you are a veteran/serving member of our military, police, fire, or emergency services, or any of the varying professionals who routinely place themselves in harm's way for the betterment of all, it is my greatest desire to serve you with the same dedication you have others.

To help determine whether or not I'd be a good fit in helping you pursue your therapeutic goals,

I invite you to book a FREE 15min consultation using the button below.

Looking forward to helping you heal, hope, and thrive!

Child and Adolescent Therapy

Children (ages 6-12)

Childhood is a time of rapid emotional, social, and developmental change, and some children benefit from extra support. Child therapy provides a warm, structured, and age-appropriate space where children can express themselves, build emotional awareness, and develop healthy coping skills.

Sessions may include play, creative activities, and gentle conversation to help children communicate their experiences in ways that feel natural and safe. Therapy is guided by the child’s needs and paced to support comfort, trust, and confidence.

Caregivers are an important part of a child’s support system. A collaborative, family-informed approach is used to strengthen understanding and connection at home, while respecting the child’s emotional world. Confidentiality is explained in child-friendly ways where safety is always the first priority.

Adolescent (ages 13-18)

Adolescence comes with pressure, from school, relationships, identity, and expectations, and it’s not always easy to carry everything on your own. Teen therapy is a space where you can talk openly, think things through, and be taken seriously, without being judged or told what you should feel.

Your privacy and autonomy are respected. You have a real say in what we focus on, how sessions are structured, and what goals feel meaningful to you.

Therapy may include conversation, reflection, and practical strategies to help you manage stress, emotions, school challenges, relationships, and life transitions in a way that supports your independence while offering steady support.

Parent Consults

Parent Consults

When a child or teen is in therapy, caregiver involvement can play an important role in supporting meaningful and lasting change. Parental consultations provide a dedicated space to discuss your child’s progress, deepen understanding of their emotional needs, and explore ways to support them between sessions.

These meetings focus on strengthening the parent–child relationship, enhancing communication, and identifying practical strategies that align with the therapeutic work. We may explore family patterns, developmental factors, and approaches that help create greater stability and connection at home.

While your child’s privacy is respected, consultations offer guidance that keeps you appropriately informed and actively involved in the process. The goal is to support you in responding with confidence, consistency, and compassion, helping extend the benefits of therapy beyond the session and into everyday family life.

Neurodiversity-Informed Therapy

Therapeutic Approach

Neurodivergent individuals do not need to be reshaped to fit the world; they deserve support that helps the world fit them more effectively.

Neurodiversity-informed therapy is grounded in the understanding that differences in thinking, learning, attention, sensory processing, and communication are natural variations of the human experience; not problems to be fixed. In our work together, I focus on creating a space where you feel respected, understood, and supported exactly as you are.

My approach is collaborative and strengths-based. Rather than trying to change who you are, we work toward understanding how your brain works, identifying what supports you best, and developing strategies that make daily life feel more manageable and sustainable. Many challenges emerge from environments that were not designed with neurodivergent needs in mind, and part of therapy may involve reducing self-blame, building self-trust, and fostering greater self-acceptance.

Whether you are navigating anxiety, burnout, emotional regulation, executive functioning challenges, relationships, identity, or major life transitions, therapy is adapted to meet you where you are.

My goal is to help you better understand yourself, advocate for your needs with confidence, and move through the world in a way that honours your strengths — not in spite of your differences, but alongside them.

Therapy-on-the-Move; the Flip Flop Difference

There's little denying that the sheer act of reaching out for help is a dubious task for many. From the moment you begin to even consider the prospect of reaching out, up to the point of actually walking into one's office, or logging on to your first session, there's often much psychological and emotional turmoil that must be navigated. This is especially true when the situation/circumstance you're considering revealing to a professional is either difficult, and/or personal.

Having been a client myself, I understand full well the magnitude of decision involved in choosing the right therapist to walk with us along this journey. Thus, right from its very conception, I wanted Flip Flop Family Therapy to be a warm-welcoming environment that is safe and supportive to any and all who may find their way to my figurative doorstep.

On another note, as a result of having worked with a number of members from our various First-Responders community, and even moreso through the interaction(s) with my male clientele, I also came to realize that location matters. From the apprehensiveness of entering a "clinical" type setting, right down to the very act of walking into a building that is known to offer such services, more and more clients are confiding in me that it creates a measure of tension, and sometimes, even elicits adverse effects.

As it is, stemming from the genuine desire to mitigate and eradicate the stigma and circumstance surrounding mental health, while concurrently trying to ensure that ALL receive the help they seek, the Therapy-on-the-move concept was birthed!

Thus, in addition to regular office, telephone, and virtual services, I am also offering a travelling therapy service that provides the opportunity for us to meet at an alternate(more comfortable) location of your choosing? This may be a dock, a ball diamond, garden, golf course, hobby shop, beach, etc.; anywhere that would help you feel more at ease, while also helping to ease the apprehension and fear you may be experiencing around the notion of reaching out for help. And while I understand that I only mentioned my men and first-responders above, please know that this service is an available add-on to my entire menu; and is open to all.

So whatever your ailment, demographic, or dynamic (individual, couple, family, group), please know that you have a place here at Flip Flop Family Therapy that you can call home, and ever receive your therapy, your way;

"We've left a light on for you"

Therapy-on-the-Move: Mobile Sessions

To add this option to ANY service, please select "Alternate" location on the booking page and then input either a description, or the physical address of the proposed location in the space provided.

I will then review, and confirm the locale in my response to the appointment request.

 *Please Note*

Depending on scheduling restraints, as well as the distance from to the proposed alternate location, some requests may not be able to be confirmed as initially requested. In these instances, I will contact you directly and we will work together finding an alternate date/time that works for all.

****IMPORTANT****

The fee listed above will be added to the advertised fee for the session style selected and is applicable to the Midland area.

A proposed location extending beyond that, may be subject to an increase to this amount and will be both discussed and consented to prior to confirmation of the booking.
