Modalities & Methods

Believing strongly in the notion that every behaviour serves a function, naturally begs the question "Why do I do what I do"?

And holding the conviction that the majority of our behaviours (both good and bad) are precipitated by our experiences and exposures in life, I believe that in order to adjust the present and change the future, we must first look at our past, because regardless of how good, bad, or ugly it was, it has invariably left an impression on us while also exerting influence on our current conduct.

One of the main things I continue to notice in clients, is that the result of these early deficiencies and abrasions have indelibly affected their view of self-image, and in almost all cases, are continuing to exert a negative influence on their personal value and self-worth. This also always leads a any number of defense mechanisms being employed simply as a manner of survival. This is where EMDR is so very powerful!

As a qualified and approved EMDR therapist, I am able, to assist individuals address these dysfunctional, often denigrating views of self, and help them (re)discover their true value as a human being and begin living a more positive and fulfiling life!

On the other hand, it is also my conviction that the client is both the expert on their life, and are the best source of information and application when it comes to their personal health and well-being. As such, in addition to the EMDR process, I love to incorporate and emply a number of tools, techniques, and concepts from other modalities because I simply cannot believe, or accept, that one modality houses the potential to help all uniformly.

Some of the other modalities I like to employ includes, but isn't limited to:

  • Bowen Family Systems Therapy,
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT),
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT),
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT),
  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT),
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Solution Focused Therapy,
  • Transactional Analysis; and
  • Existential Therapy.

It is my hope that by using a variety of modalities and approaches, mixed with a healthy dose of compassion and encouragement along the way, I will garner to ability to empower my client(s) to truly live full and beautiful lives, while loving and serving others abundantly.

Provided the vastness and variety of human beings we invariably encounter as therapists, I feel it would be limiting, perhaps even irresponsible, to simply rest in, or rely on, only those skills and competencies acquired within a specific educational program. As such, in an effort to be as effective, and efficient as possible in helping clients heal, I also draw upon a number of additional tools, techniques, and training, I've acquired across the breadth of my personal and professional life as well. Some examples would be:

Anger & Conflict Management

Coaching for Excellence & Effective Leadership

Human Performance & Maintenance

Interpersonal Communication Skills

Leadership Coaching and Life Skills

Mental Fitness & Suicide Awareness/Intervention/Prevention

Addiction Intervention

As it is, being responsibly eclectic in my approach, I strive to remain fully committed to leaving no stone unturned in developing, or furthering, my personal, and professional skillset and competencies to ensure my clients are receiving the most appropriate care possible, and it's provide with the upmost care and concern for their well-being!
